AURA sits above the Palm at a height where the city's proportions begin to shift. Water, architecture and sky occupy the same frame, and the boundaries between them are difficult to locate precisely.

The pool is the instrument through which this works. Its edge meets the horizon in a way that makes depth ambiguous. The water below reflects what is above it. The city arranges itself at distance, and the haze that settles across Dubai for much of the year softens what remains of the edge.

From ground level, Dubai presents itself in scale. From this height, that scale dissolves into pattern.

The Marina's towers stand to the east, their upper floors disappearing into the atmosphere. The Palm extends outward in both directions, its geometry only readable from above. Further along the trunk, Atlantis sits at the tip, its silhouette absorbed into the horizon on a morning with enough heat in the air. The city continues beyond both. Its outer edge is uncertain. The last towers are barely distinguishable from the sky above them.

The height removes detail. The texture of the city, its movement and noise, its ground level complexity — none of it carries this far. What remains is form, light and the particular quality of distance.

The sunset changes what the pool is.

Water catches the last colour in the sky — orange deepening toward red, then a cooler green below the surface where the pool's own lighting begins. The Palm's lights come on one by one as the horizon loses its definition. For a few minutes the water reflects what the sky is doing, and the two surfaces become difficult to separate.

The black and white image taken from the same position, earlier in the day, describes the distance differently. Atlantis reads as a silhouette against haze. The roads on the Palm trunk run in straight lines toward it. The fronds extend on either side. The city is not visible so much as suggested.
