Places, brands and experiences the studio has studied, documented and worked with.
mkd STUDIO documents places, brands and experiences with a story.
The work may begin as an independent study, an invited visit or a commissioned publication. The intention remains the same: to document atmosphere, identity and the feeling of a place with care. The scope varies. The approach does not.
Hotels. Destinations. Founder-led businesses. Cultural institutions. Sporting experiences.
That is worth saying plainly. No client briefed The Ned, Doha. Nobody paid for Open Late or Waiting for Dusk. The volumes exist because the subjects deserved them, and they were built to the standard a commission would demand: photographed across repeated visits, written in sequence, designed as complete works, produced as printed first editions. They are what a commissioned publication looks like, demonstrated in advance.
A commissioned volume follows the same process with one difference: access, and a purpose agreed together. The studio visits, studies the place across its hours, and builds the publication, photography, writing and design as a single discipline. What a client receives is the complete work: a digital reader built for the place it documents, a printed first edition bound in linen, and a photographic record made to remain true for years, not seasons.
The studio takes on a small number of these projects each year, for hotels, destinations, founder-led businesses and cultural institutions with a story worth documenting. It begins with a conversation, and the conversation begins with the work below.
Alongside the archive, selected short films have reached significant organic audiences without paid promotion or distribution.
The work travelled because people wanted to pass it on.
