The Framework is a document written before any commission begins. Seventeen pages describing how mkd STUDIO approaches photography, writing and design as a single integrated discipline, and why the output is always a publication rather than a collection of files.
The document covers the four subjects the studio works across: hospitality, places, craft and experience. For each, it describes not what the studio photographs but how it decides what matters. A hotel at the particular hour when the lobby is quiet. A city approached through the peripheral streets rather than the landmarks. A fragrance house photographed through the objects and spaces that give the work its character.
The Framework exists because commissioning an editorial publication requires a different conversation than booking a photographer. A client who has read it understands that the studio works toward a specific kind of result: one that documents what something actually feels like rather than how it has been positioned. The conversation that follows is shorter. The work that results is better.
